Still Climbing

What have you been doing with your past 50 years?

You know I’ve been doing one thing only: reaching children with the Gospel so they will know that God loves them. If you know me at all, you know my dedication is to do anything that’s morally and ethically correct to get a child under the sound of the Gospel. That, my friend, is the very basis that Metro World Child operates on.

You already know I came to Christ when only one man stopped after seeing me sitting on the side of the road for three days after my mother left me there and never came back. He loaded me in a church van and sent me to church camp where I heard about Jesus. I was put under the sound of the Gospel, even though no one wanted me, and that’s what it took for me. That’s the very reason I push as hard as I can to be that person to other kids — kids that others either don’t want or who have been given up on. It’s not been an easy road.

Starting up the Mountain of Ministry

After coming to Brooklyn to start what I knew in my gut was what needed to be done, I’ve paid the price. Not just in the travelling to raise the money to keep it going, but dealing with the constant opposition here and around the world—going into the rough neighborhoods run by drug dealers, the fights, being stabbed, getting shot, seeing the poverty and the violence, threatened more times than anyone should be. Going into neighborhoods that scare everyone else away.

Why do I put myself through all of these challenges? For THE ONE. Because I know there is one child on every block, one child in every project building, one child in every village in some of these countries that aren’t so “missionary friendly” who needs to be reached.

Metro World Child ministers to 200,000 kids each week around the world, but there is always ONE MORE CHILD who needs to be rescued, given hope, and hear about God’s love. The need is great! I’m not asking you to save all the kids in a village or in a city block, but help rescue just one more child. Your help can help change the life of a child, just like the man who changed my life as a young boy.

I’ll tell you about ONE CHILD in the Philippines. Her name is Annaliza. She came from a family of seven children. Her mother had nothing to feed them but a handful of rice. She had a couple pesos to buy a banana. One banana—not a bunch of bananas. One banana that she cut into seven pieces and served with what little rice she had. Only seven pieces — should have been eight, but she left herself out so her kids could have more.

Annaliza started coming to the Sidewalk Sunday School we established in Manila. She learned that there was a Heavenly Father who loved her, a Savior who would forgive her, heal her,
and always be there for her. Every week she came and learned more and more. She became
a helper and learned to teach at Sunday School as she grew in the Lord. Then came ONE CHANCE that she was able to study and become a certified teacher. How did that happen? Someone believed in what we were trying to do—to get more children under the sound of the Gospel. By them partnering with Metro World Child, Annaliza had the chance to fulfill what God had put in her to do: teach others.

Still climbing…

I will soon be celebrating my 50th year of ministry. It’s been a long road. Because of all the difficulties and challenges, it’s been quite a mountain. But, I have never looked back. We aren’t special—we aren’t superheroes or celebrities. We are just ordinary people who are taking the opportunity to do whatever it takes.

There is still a Mountain of Ministry that lies ahead to reach more kids, so I will be climbing
Mt. Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa, to raise $500,000 to provide hope and build futures for children around the world. With your support, we are able to continue to climb this Mountain of Ministry, but I need to hear back from you by August 31st.

We have a lot of doors opening for evangelism in the remaining months of the year that need to be funded. I absolutely need your help now. Your BEST GIFT will make a difference in the lives of kids, but I really need you to respond by August 31st to help us reach our $500,000 goal.

There’s a list of four things that can’t be taken back: a word after it’s been spoken, an occasion once it’s missed, an action once it’s done, and time once it’s passed. When you have the opportunity to do something, you need to make every effort to do it. Someone made the CHOICE to make it possible for us to reach out to Annaliza and to thousands of children, not just here in New York City, but all over the world!

We have the chance to make a difference in the lives of, now, 200,000 kids a week through the ministry of the Sunday School of Metro World Child. Somebody took a chance on me. I’m looking for some folks who will join with me as we take a chance on even more kids to give them the opportunity to hear the Gospel. Like they say: “The choice is yours.” I am blessed to have the staff and volunteers all over the world who are standing next to me, ready to do the same thing. The kids are there. The urgency is there. All we need is YOU.

Without wax,

Pastor Bill Wilson
Founder and Senior Pastor

P.S. In just a few weeks, I will be 70 years old, but I’m not slowing down! I will be climbing Mt Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa, to raise $500,000 for our outreaches to the kids. The project is called Klimbing for Kids. I hope I can count on you to give towards this special project by August 31st.
