I wanted to share a few things with you as we close in on the busiest and most critical time of our year.
Most of you know we start laying out next Thanksgiving and Christmas as soon as the year is over. It’s a time of planning and preparation, then revive, recoup and repeat. Every year we are out there giving it our best to provide as many families as possible with enough food for a Thanksgiving dinner. When those tables are empty and it’s supposed to be a holiday, kids find it pretty hard to understand the concept of being thankful. That’s where many of you have jumped on board with us to see that become a reality for the families of many of our kids who, without your help, would have nothing on Thanksgiving Day.
So many of you have also been instrumental in making sure that the tens of thousands of children who attend Metro’s Sunday Schools around the world have a gift at Christmas. I don’t have to tell you what it means to a kid to receive something at Christmas.
Last year, a dad whose kids who faithfully attend Sunday School in the Bronx told the team, “You have no idea how much this means to me that my kids are getting a present.” With tears in his eyes, he sadly admitted that he had lost his job so he was having to come to grips with the fact that this year would be just another empty holiday if it weren’t for Metro World Child. He shared that kids equate being loved with receiving something at Christmas.
If you ask the kids what they like to eat for Thanksgiving or what they want for Christmas, more times than we can count the answer is usually “Anything! Anything we can have is OK!” or “I will be so happy if we get anything.”
What does all that have to do with you who make up the Prayer Network? I’m asking you all to make a conscious effort keep us in prayer as we roll full steam ahead into this crucial time of the year. You know as well as I do that these upcoming holidays are the best times to reach people, to let them know they are loved and to share Christ more than any other time during the year. This is the season!
– The safety of our ministry teams around the world.
– Me as I continue to be out there working to bring in what it takes to make it happen.
– As the finances come in, that we would have enough to meet the needs.
– Open hearts as the Gospel is shared.
– Finishing this year strong and that the New Year will hold even more opportunities and blessings!
I need to challenge all of you: Pray like you’ve never prayed before. The obstacles we face really are, literally, matters of life and death. With the level of violence on the rise both here and in our international locations, we’ve got to constantly be cautious and aware for the safety of the kids and team members. The staff and volunteers understand the risk and they understand the cost of being out there, of being on the ‘front lines’ in this battle for souls. We need you to stand with us by covering everything we do with prayer.
So, as we begin preparing to bring this year to a close, I’m praying for more. Specifically that this will urge you to do more than usual, be more than normal, and expect more than ordinary.
As you pray for those with nothing, to have something, anything, what does it mean?
It means everything.
Moving ahead, – Bill
